Idol Machine – a punk/rock project

After two years of rediscovering and playing with my old new love, the electric guitar, and after one year of rehearsing in a mouldy basement with the talented, energetic, motivated, and well-oiled duo-team Wolle (bass) and Stiefel (drums), a.k.a Wollstiefel, we proudly announce our new common project: Idol Machine.

Perhaps it is not a coincidence that all three of us felt the need for turning back to our punk rock roots at the same time: the time of ecological, economical, political turmoil and a pandemic that paralyzed the world and turned cultural life upside down; the time of warfare that brought back the spectre of nuclear annihilation; and the time in which modern technology promises to be the savior of humanity, of culture, of the environment, and of world capitalism with its dangerous paradigm of everlasting economic growth.

At such times there’s a desperate need for critical voices so we do what we can best: making noise and shouting out words. These noise and words in the form of punk rock music are human to the core; however, we as human beings use the machine as a tool to spread out our message. Neverthelesee, We don’t think that the idol-machine will save the world. On the contrary, we think that putting the profit-making machinery on idle is a step we need to take in order to realize our deepest human needs. It is this spirit in which the new songs are born which we have been diligently practicing since we decided to join our forces once again as a punk rock trio.

We happily present you a short demo recording on our Bandcamp site which we simply named „The Basement Demo ’23“. The three songs are available for free listening and free download on our new Bandcamp site, but of course you can support the band by paying for the tracks if you want.

Finally a few thoughts on the songs. The first one, „Cohesion“, might be familiar to everyone who listened to the album „Identity“ that I recorded with my acoustic project Attila & Friends. Here you can hear the version I already had in my mind when I wrote that song back in 2017. The song is a call for humanity to stop the constant division and hatred among ourselves and find the things that unite us. „The Line“ with its strong musical contrast depicts an insane journey in which the human psyche fights the illusion and promise of the online world. Similarly, „Follow Me“ is an invitation back to our basic human side along with all the positive and negative aspects of it.

If you like what we do and want to hear the other songs, you are very welcome to visit our first official concert in the Ballonfabrik, Augsburg on Friday, October 27. You find more information under „Tour Dates“.
